Tiger Hill, Huqiu, is one of Suzhou's greatest attractions which has the reputation of ¨The first scenic spot in Wu - an area comprising southern Jiangsu Province and northern Zhejiang Province. It is the final resting place of the ruler of ancient Suzhou, He Lu. It was named Tiger Hill after a tiger was seen lying on He Lu's tomb.
Sword Pond (Jianchi) is one of Tiger Hill's most famous spots. He Lu was a famous warrior and sword collector and the Sword Pond is alleged to hold his 3,000 odd swords, including "Bianzhu" and "Yuchang" precious swords, in its watery depths.
The Yunyan Pagoda, the symbol of Suzhou, also is an attractive site in this area. It is 47.5m high, 7 storeys. Due to the cause of foundation, it started leaning towards north-west direction from the Qin Dynasty.
Although Tiger Hill does not cover a large area, yet when you reaches Thousand People Rock and Sword Pond, you can feel its power and grandeur, as if you were in the midst of precipice and deep valley. It's best to take a full afternoon to explore this wonderful historic park.
