Liaoning Province -- China's leading apple producer and home of Dalian, the nationally known fishery center -- in the southern part of northeast China is bounded by the Huanghai and Bohai seas in the south, with a coastline 2,187 kilometers long. Liaoning Province covers an area of 145,900 square kilometers, of which 60 per cent are mountains, 10 per cent rivers and 30 per cent farmland. The Liaohe, the principal waterway of the province, flows through the middle part of Liaoning from north to south. The Yalu on the eastern fringe is the boundary river between China and Korea.
With its railway mileage exceeding 4,000 kilometers, Liaoning has the densest network of rail lines in the country. Radiating from Shenyang are trunk lines such as the Beijing-Harbin, Shenyang-Dalian, Shenyang-Jilin and Shenyang-Dandong railways. Its 36,000 kilometers of highways lead to all parts of the province. Its main ports include Dalian, Dandong and Yingkou.
Climate:
Liaoning province lies in the east of the Eurasian Continent.It features temperate continental monsoon climate with a long winter, a warm summer and a short spring and autumn. The province receives annual sunlight radiation ranging from 100-200 calories per square cm, and 2100-2600 hours of sunlight with average temperature of 7-11° C. It enjoys 130-200 days frost free period and 600-1100 mm of precipitation every year. The annual rainfall is 1100 mm in the east hilly area; while in the west hilly region which is connected with Inner Mongolian plateau, the yearly precipitation is 400 mm. The rainfall in central plain is moderate with about 600 mm per year.
